THE FUTURE OF WHAT
I produce a weekly podcast and radio show about the music industry called, ‘The Future of What,’ that is hosted by Kill Rock Stars president and former A2IM Board Member, Portia Sabin. Over the course of seventy hour long episodes, we’ve explored several often overlooked issues in the industry, and helped to shed a different light on current trends and fluctuations inside the business. If you’re a musician, or know someone who is, this is essential listening for you or them.
KILL ROCK STARS
My connection to Kill Rock Stars began in 2012, when I offered to help them completely renovate their existing website. Once that project was complete, I stayed on to help to improve artists’ web profiles and to build splash pages for key releases. Starting in 2014, I began producing video content for the label’s YouTube channel, which to date has included: album trailers, live stand-up performances, album playlists, etc.
A2IM LIBERA AWARDS
Since 2014, I have worked with The American Association of Independent Music to produce their annual ‘Libera Awards’ ceremony in New York City. Rounding out “Indie Week,” the “Libby Awards” (sometimes lovingly referred to as the “Indie Grammys”), consists of fifteen to twenty awards categories, whose nominees are chosen by and large by association members and industry peers. This year’s ceremony will be held on June 8th at the Playstation Theater, and Ted Leo is returning as host.
I started ‘Lowatt’ in 2004 to release albums by my friends that felt challenging at the time, or were challenging by their very design. Despite the slew of changes in the music industry since then, and the label’s various aesthetics over the years, the focus on “breaking new ground” remains steadfast and unwavering. To date, the label has released (mostly) new music from former members of hardcore and post-hardcore bands like: Sparta, Farside, Government Issue, Wool, State of the Nation, Torches To Rome, Short Hate Temper, and more.
